The 'Smaller and Smaller Circles' was published in U.P. This 'Lalaki sa Dilim' was published in Ateneo. Would I ever encounter a book published in Lyceum? Hehehe... XD
As the title suggests, the book contains violence because the story consists of rape, assault, and murder. Though I have already learned in the introduction that scenes or specific sentences will continuously be repeated, I still got tired of repeatedly reading them over and over again. But, it's noticeable that it's purpose is for emphasis.
I like the way the author divided each chapter. Whenever one chapter ends, the start of the next chapter is its continuation. Unlike in other books wherein each chapter goes to another scene. Here, every end of each chapter is somehow getting into action wherein you will know what happened next exactly at the beginning of the next chapter.
Well, although the end became tragic for Rafael's dad and wife, the story sort of ended happily. I didn't expect that because of the turn out of events. 'Acceptance,' the key word, was quite easy to Ligaya. Rafael, who carried strong will and 'courage' to tell Ligaya the truth, just followed because Ligaya was all he has left.
Rafael characterizes the traits of men: the like to drink, smoke, and women. But, because of the incoming wedding, he turned his back at those because he wants to live a peaceful life with Margarita, a married life. Sad to say, when his wife made a relationship with his best friend, he came back to his habits, except looking for women. He wants to save their marriage and relationship so he made a deal with Margarita to stay away from Nick. Nothing changed. So, he fell in more love with Ligaya because of what happened and because of her child.
When Rafael did something to Ligaya, on the night of his sag party, his conscience didn't let him sleep. It's just saying that there's still goodness in those bad people. It was their decision to be bad, but caring for others is still within them. Rafael gave Ligaya'sfamily fifty thousand pesos and healed her blindness.
Let's talk of the anime Inuyasha. Sesshomarou seems to be the bad guy, or maybe "is" the bad guy. But he cares for a human girl named Rin and doesn't let anything bad happen to her. Another is in the series Alias. Sydney's (played by Jennifer Garner) mother, is an antagonist. But despite of that fact, she still cares for her daughter, not letting her to be in danger or killed. There are many more, but this is the most recent that I remember.
Decision making is not easy. Once we made our choice, we have to stick to it and justify why we chose it. There might be a saying the "the end justifies the means," but please think very hard. Take your time. Your decision affects everyone around you, one way or another. Take note that something true to you may be false to others. Ask guidance from our Lord. Always pray in every moment, happiness or sadness. Everything happens for a reason, but be careful. One shouldn't just grabbed a sleeping woman and do what he desires to her. Respect others, their choices and anything about them. Take time to reflect.
